End Of Semester

Its the final presentations day and I a m so tired but anxious to get my presentation done. During the gallery we had to speak to at least four guest and get some input about our work and tell the about our guild. I got some good feed back from carmina and it help me to look at my building a little diferenly and some slight changes that could be done on my hand. I feel like overall the class did a good job with there work and I feel like all the desk crits and student crits paid off at the end. Some areas in my work I a m still struggling on just like some other students is making sure I represent my idea correctly and making sure my craft is up to park.

final preparations

So its getting down to our final presentation and we have to display our work in a way that would show to the audience our vision for our guild. I came up with the idea to make my work look like it was all linked or enterlocked together to tell my story. I defintley want to include my process work and my models of how they have evolve over time and what inspired my ideas. I have enjoyed designing this guild even know I did hit some challenging situations where I felt like giving up or starting my design over but I stuck with it and hopefully it will come out successful.

Architecture relationships

I am taking Revit this semester and it has been an interesting exsperience because I dont really like computer programs but I am learning to adjust because in the world of architecture that is what people rely on. for our final we were instructed to pick an architect and a house that they have designed and I chose to do the glass house by Mies van Rhoe and we have to use aspects or some of the similar ideas that were used in there buildings. The is really going to be a challenge for me but I have to get it done and make it one of my best works. Learning a new computer skill can be challenging but as long as you keep up with it and not give up everything will work out at the end. BE POSITIVE! I have noticed that Revit is a basic program and does a lot of the work for you but if you dont know what your doing thats when you run into problems.

Final Project

So for the past two weeks we have been having critiques about our guild designs. I think they have been going pretty good except that I need to really step my game up in my forms of representation and displaying to the audience a functional building design. I think I have come up with my finial building design and I have worked out my circulation throughout the building. But I haven't finialized materiality so that is what I am really battling with right now. I just pray that the slight changes thatI have been making will make my building more functional and people will want to come inside my guild or at least wonder what goes on in it.

AIA Richmond Conference

So this week we all had to attend the conference in Richmond and go to at least two of the sessions the sessions were interesting but some werent related to anything that architecture students would benefit from. I went to alot of different venders as well and talked to come people from contracting firms and autdesk. They mentioned how thay usually hire people from all different fields not just architects/engineers. I thought the conference was ok but there were alot of people there that we couldnt benefit from because they were trying to sell there products to contractors or architects and were just students.

Well today just before studio we had a presentation which was given by Windsor windows and doors. They talked about architectural coatings for aluminum clad, the types of paints we should use when designing a building, and the anodizing process. I thought the presentation was very interesting because now I know what type of paints they have and the things you should consider before deciding on putting paint over aluminum. I noticed that the window frames that Windsor does are very efficient but expensive so I will keep that into consideration when I start designing.

process work and studio culture

So the next project is done in Downtown Newport news and we have to design our site to fit our building. Everyone in the class had to take part in the making of the big class model and site plan which was crazy if u ask me because everyone didn't want to do there part. We noticed that there was a lil confusion about the size of the site b/c people were forgetting to include the vegetation but I think we got all the confusion fixed. Name the architect on Wednesday was such a success I wish a student would of won but Shannon and Carmina just knew too much and if u didn't get to see the competition u missed out!
